Update: Channel 13 News Story & More...

After contacting our local news channel, News Channel 13, they have responded and are interested in a story on us. They have named us as the 'Central Floridians of the Week' in an upcoming week. We have not gotten all of the details yet as to when they will be filming us or when our segment will air. We will definitely keep you updated on that and hopefully be able to embed our segment right here!

We are also continuing to work on our numerous contacts in our local community, we just sent out a letter to the Mayor of Casselberry, hopefully she will get on board with our efforts to help us get the word out on Act Out Loud.

Our PSA's are going along well also. We have already filmed the distracted driving one, all we need to do it edit the footage, then upload it right here. After that we will continue working hard on our other four PSA's, as well as all of our other efforts to encourage ever teen to drive safely every time they are at the wheel.

Night Driving PSA

Night Driving is another one of our PSA topics. During the night our vision is severely limited, so if you add driving while intoxicated to the equation you increase the risk of getting into an accident. According to nightdriver.com midnight to 3 am on saturdays is the deadliest 3 hour period, resulting in nearly 1250 crashes.

Use of Seat belt PSA

The use of seat belts will be another one of our PSA topics. Did you know that the failure to wear a seat belt contributes to more fatalities in a car crash. According to Caraccident.com, 63% of people killed in accidents were not wearing seat belts. Young people, especially males 16 to 25 fail to buckle up, they simple do not believed they will be injured or killed, yet they are the nation's highest risk drivers. Wearing a seat belt is the most effective thing, that can help to save lives and reduce the number of accidents in the road.

Distracted Driving PSA

One of our PSA videos will be on the topic of distracted driving. According to Nationwide the use of cell phones while driving is the most common distraction while driving. Distractions from a cell phone extends a driver's reaction as much as having a level of .08% of alcohol. 10% of drivers aged 16 to 24 years old, are on their phone at any one time. Driving while distracted is a factor in 25% of the police reported crashes. In this PSA we hope to stress the importance of keeping your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.

Impaired Driving PSA

Hi Eyme here,

One of the topics for our PSA will be impaired driving. Did you know according to the CDC in 2006, 13,470 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes and in one year, over 1.4 million drivers were arrested for dring under the influence of alcohol. During the times for when student driving increases, such as prom we want to remind students to practice safe driving skills.

Our Mission

We are extremely excited about our participation in this project. Our mission in this project is to make our fellow teens be aware of all of the dangers that driving can bring upon people, whether you are a safe driver or not. Our group intends on bringing five videos to everyone regarding different aspects of driving. We also will be putting together a promotional packet to go along with the videos to send out to local radio and TV stations, as well as, to the local newspapers.
We also are excited because we have been involved in numerous other video contests regarding safe driving. Two of our safe driving videos were publicly broadcasted statewide, therefore we are anxious to be engaged in a national contest that will be able to widen our audience.

Why I am eager to participate!

Hi my name is Eyme, I'm a Lake Howell student and I've decided to be part of the Act Out Loud program to help teens across the nation realize the dangers behind driving.

Everyday while driving I think of the consequences that how a wrong maneuver might endangered my life. I always try to never drive while I'm angry, stressed out, and most important under the influence. Many teens today that drive under the influence have a pretty high chance into getting into an accident, and in some cases even die as a result of drunk driving.

Another important issue behind car crashes is driving while being angry. Less than a year ago, I knew a girl, who was a graduate of Lake Howell, she had an entire life ahead of her, if I'm not mistaken she was about 20 or 21 years old. I don't really know details but from what I know she was at a fast food restaurant with her friends, they had just come out from a night club.
She had a fight with her boyfriend and left the place really upset and angry, she got into her car and started driving, while on the way I guessed she realized she wanted to go back and on a red light she did a really fast U-Turn and she did not notice a Hummer that was coming in her direction, the two cars crashed pretty hard, her car was completely destroyed and she died, not sure if it was instant or if it was on the way to the hospital but she did not survive.

Many people right now might be thinking oh this is not gonna happen to me, I'm always very careful while driving, and thats good, but so was she, until that one day that one wrong move cost her, her life. Thats why I'm here, and I want to help people across the globe realize the dangers behind driving and to watch out for others driving.
